Charles Bukowski is a Hack/What is Poetry??

Maybe I just don’t get it.  I had some free time tonight at SWG headquarters so I decided to watch a documentary, I just watched the Oscars and found out about them so I decided to google documentary and this came up so I watched it.  I gotta say my friends, I almost don’t know what I was watching the whole time.  Who is this guy, he’s so mean and crude!  Warning, it’s NSFW, but I wouldn’t bother watching it there isn’t any nudity or anything, it’s mostly boring.

So what is poetry?  According to Bukowski:

Poetry is being able to say “cock” whenever you want and talking about crude women and people of the night.  You can drink all the wine you want and then you use a typewriter (mechanical) and write things down, you put them in a book of collected “poems” and then you publish it.  It’s a good way to make money, and you can say whatever you want, you get to be a dirty guy and talk about drinking and fucking.

 

I was pretty confused through the whole thing, I wouldn’t suggest reading poetry to your parents or any religious figures that live in your life.  However, it was an interesting watch, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it.  I don’t know guys, I’m confused.  What do you think about “poems???”  Sound off below!!
